The Durham Crisis Response Center Volunteers work to end domestic and sexual violence through advocacy, education, support, and prevention.
We are currently looking for volunteers for:

Volunteer Descriptions:
Crisis Line Advocate
Advocates answer the 24-hour crisis line, working directly with victims of domestic and sexual violence, providing support, referrals, and information.
Requirements:
Complete the 36-hour advocacy training
Sign up for three shifts per month
Have transportation, phone, and email address
1 year commitment
Must be at least 18 years of age
Hospital Responder
Advocates respond to hospital calls working directly with victims of domestic and sexual violence, providing support, referrals, and DCRC educational information.
Requirements:
Complete the 36-hour advocacy training
Sign up for 3 shifts per month
Have transportation, phone, and email address
1 year commitment
Must be at least 18 years of age
Child Care Advocate
Provide care and coordinate special activities for children during the bi-monthly support group meetings. During these support groups, volunteers provide childcare for the women who have children so they may attend group uninterrupted.
Requirements:
Complete DCRC Child Care Orientation
Make a 6 month commitment to DCRC
Must be at least 16 years of age
1-Day Project Volunteer
This opportunity is for people who want to volunteer but have schedules that don't allow for it on a regular basis. 1-Day project volunteers participate in planned activities that can be completed in a single day, such as food/clothing drives, painting or other such projects or community awareness events.
Requirements:
Have own transportation
Make 6month to 1 year commitment
Have phone and email address
Must be at least 16 years of age
Court Advocate
Court Advocates provide assistance to the DV Program Coordinator and support to the clients filing DVPO's or navigating through the court system.
Requirements:
Complete the 36-hour advocacy training
Complete 7-hour court advocacy training
Have transportation, phone, and email address
Must take CL or Hospital Response shifts for 6 months prior to Court Advocacy training
1 year commitment
Must be at least 18 years of age
Thrift Store Volunteer
Assist with Pennies for Change, DCRC's benefit thrift store. Volunteers are needed to help sort and organize donations as well as assist with daily operations of the store.
Requirements:
Complete on-site orientation and training
Must be available during weekday daytime hours or weekends
Must be at least 16 years of age
Fundraising Volunteer
Provides ideas and assistance with fundraising projects for DCRC. Volunteers participate in a variety of events, doing everything from planning to publicity to welcoming guests at an event on as-needed basis. Volunteers should be somewhat flexible and able to see the projects through to their completion.
Requirements:
Prior fundraising experience is preferred but not necessary
Must be organized and energetic
Must have transportation, email, and phone
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Community Education & Events
Provide and promote education, prevention and awareness about sexual and domestic violence to various community groups (schools, churches, etc.).
Requirements:
Must fulfill all Crisis Line Advocacy requirements, including 3 shifts per month for 6 months
Complete 8-hour community ed. training
Administrative Volunteer
Administrative volunteers will assist staff with data entry, filing, and wother day-to-day administrative tasks
Requirements:
Must be organized and punctual
Should be flexible and able to multi-task
Must be available during office hours
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have transportation, email, and phone
Shelter Volunteers
Various positions are available at the shelter to assist with the residents, providing transportation, childcare, moral support, overnight care, and office help.
The Transition Advocate - this is a crisis line advocate that will answer the crisis line at the shelter from 5pm-9pm to allow a "live" person to be at the shelter.
Requirements:
Complete 36-hour advocacy training
Complete shelter orientation
Must have transportation, email, and phone
Previous volunteer experience preferred but not necessary.
Spanish Speaking Advocate
A special need exists for Spanish speaking advocates to assist with our Latino population.
Requirements:
Same as CL Advocate + 1 week shifts, cell phone or pager will be provided.
Groups:
ADOPT DCRC! We seek one or more groups to "adopt us" for a period of time or to come for a one-day project. Contact info@durhamcrisisresponse.org at least one month prior to your target volunteer date and we'll find a place for your group.
